Gaining weight seems to be an easy thing to do, especially around the holiday seasons. It so easy that between thanksgiving and new years its common for people to gain and extra five to ten pounds. Losing this extra weight is much harder then it was to gain.

However the easiest way to avoid holiday weight gain is to set your body up to burn maximum calories and have an increased metabolism. This can be easily accomplished with elliptical workout machines.

Why Use Elliptical Machines?
Because of their unique design elliptical machines are very easy on your body and will not cause pain to people with sensitive or damaged joints. This gives many people who were once unable to workout the ability to enjoy a great low impact workout. Elliptical trainers also offer a great aerobic workout and an aerobic workout is a key part of any body conditioning or weight loss routine. Without bringing your heart up to these levels you are just going through the motions. With the elliptical treadmill you can vary your speed, and work your upper body with the levers. You can also run safely backwards in order to target your muscles a different way!
Do Not Forget Weight Training

While they re great for condition ing and weight loss the one thing that elliptical workout machines will not do is build lean muscle mass. For this you are going to have to do some resistance training on either free weights or weight machines.

Try to fit in a workout about three times a week using the ellipticals and the other two days incorporate your resistance training. Give yourself at least two days of rest during the week in order for your body to rest and recover.

Failure to give your self adequate rest time can result in over training and injury and this will keep you sidelined and unable to attain your fitness goals and avoid holiday weight gain.
